Fantasy Land, 2020
Performance Theatre

Fantasy land is a physical theatre that I directed. In this theatre I staged the scene in ‘a girl’s room’. Performers were asked to interact with each other under this specific setting, led by an abstract script. It demonstrates the tensions and invisible violence the woman suffered in heterosexual intimate relationship. She stands in a position that is difficult to express her own opinions or refuse this uncomfortable relationship. She hasn’t realize her transcendence of herself as Beauvoir discussed in The Second Sex. Noticing her self-boundaries in the intimate relationship, manifesting control of her body and life, and avoiding manipulations from the normal understanding of masculinity and femininity, are the challenges most women are facing.
Inspired by Abreaktionsspiel, a gory performance combined woman body and dead goat created by Viennese Actionism, I staged my performance theatre with a series of representative objects. Interactions of performers are undesigned, as I’m trying to create a real tension through bodily experience. The plaster represents the aggressive desire from man character, objected woman’s body along with the concretion. They are sticky, hard to clean, attached on the wrinkles of skin, and splashed everywhere.
